About us

More about Hugo.

Based in Cape Town, Hugo runs his own private tax practice as well as joint venture tax and formal emigration business, assisting expats, or “WEG”kaners (away Africans as fondly refers to his client base) to legally reconcile themselves as a foreign resident expat with his or her ZA Rand wallet and retirement funds.

Tax, emigration, expat tax or legitimately transferring of your money in or out of SA? You have two options: #GoToHugo or #Huegle_It. Yes, Hugo is indeed your best @Wegkaner or Saffas tax specialist able to guide you as to the pros and cons and then the actual process to follow.

Hugo emigrated his first client in May 1993 two months after the Chris Hani murder and since then he has lectured SA expat, SA CGT and income tax in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, London, Amsterdam, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Mauritius and then the obvious from Cape Town to Upington in the North, not to mention Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Bloemfontein. Hugo always grins when he shares the story of his appearance at Wembley Stadium London and being the first person to travel all over South Africa to trains all SARS offices in CGT, way back in 1991.

He is also quick to mention that his first countrywide tax presentation tour, was way back in 1986 acting as Gofar to the well known Anthony Chait, lecturing on RSC Levies. Who remembers them and the councils in the Overberg being told from issuing licences to own wild animals, we going to teach you to tax small and big business on turnover and payroll.

During 2014, 2016 and 2017 and 2019 Hugo was was an active tax specialist and fiduciary panellist at TAX INDABA. During 2020 he was a guest speaker at national AGM of FISA, the Fiduciary Institute of South Africa. For SAIT and Tax Faculty he has done more than five webinars and a countrywide roadshow on the (then) new section 7C tax rules.

It is no surprise that his colleagues refer to him as “ask Hue’Gle” when all other resources fail. Hugo prefers being known as any Wegkaner’s best friend back home.

Hugo is not only a PBO/NGO specialist providing tax and practical advice; he also spent many years as national treasurer for both the Association of Round Tables (ARTSA as it was then known) and Chaine des Rôtisseurs Afrique de Sud (www.chaine.co.za).

Hugo spent many years in Gauteng, Hugo and his spouse relocated to Hermanus (2012), where he joined the then Cashkows (as they were then known). Hugo then transferred to Cape Town in 2014. The couple now resides in Sea Point and clients are met at the Inner City By Ideas Cartel at The Old Foundry, Cnr Ebenezer & Sand Hill Rd, behind Beluga (on the link road between Greenpoint and the Waterfront). The parking entrance is on Cardiff Street.
